Off Camera Flash – An Introduction

It’s really not necessary to have a lot of expensive equipment to shoot strikingly lit photos. Most of the time all you need is your camera’s built-in flash and one other light source, usually a inexpensive flash with variable output. Even using a small strobe without  variable output can work with a little more work.

The photo of the softball player at the top was taken with one strobe shooting through an in expensive white umbrella reflector.

This class will introduce you to understanding how to balance using a second flash indoors and outdoors, with a fancy digital SLR or using a simple point & shoot with a built-in flash.

This is not rocket science although today’s modern cameras and flashes have more computing power than the Apollo spacecraft.

Getting good  remote flash photos is a matter of balancing what you already have, the sun or an interior light, with what you will create using your flash.

Knowing what works puts you in charge. Camera technology becomes secondary to the content.

We’ll teach you have to understand the possibilities of off-camera, secondary flash.
